yah I usually start from scratch too... the only thing I sometimes save as a template is one track with a drum rack, saturator and utility. Then on the master track I have an external audio effect that sends the signal through my external mastering chain.

essentially all you will be doing is converting midi to an ethernet signal, back to midi.... although it will in the end be without a midi cable it's still the same thing

there are vst lfo's out there. You can midi map them and all and they oscillate a cc message.

How advanced are you with ableton live?

You can easily do all of it in ableton. You do not need anything else, just learn ableton better.

look at the berhinger tube compressor I totally agree. Those vst emulations can't possibly compare to something like that - after you change the tubes to the 30 dollar ones! I beg to differ. I have several hardware compressors, the most expensive being a drawmer and none of them are as good as some...
