I play live with the "poor" 5400 rpm HD of my thinkpad and I still have to have glitches or dropouts on stage.
I even recorded 14 tracks in realtime on the "poor" HD with no problems...

I'm happy of my IBM, while still single core (1.86 Ghz Pentium M w/1.5 Gb RAM with an RME Multiface II) suits my needs, with the internal 5400 RPM HD I can record 16 tracks at the same time w/reverbs and stuff w/o glitches or dropouts whatsoever -I guess the soundcard plays a role here too- a friend...

ok my mnml sluts, i got a few tracks that i thought were done....sounds just fine in the mixdown....but after i render the track is real low, sound is muddy....what program can i use to crisp up the track?!?......any help is more then appreciated.. if you use ableton live, forget about rendering to...

do not put your laptop on a turntable, the magnetic thing can damage your hard drive. FM syntesis is great to create drum sounds, and the ease of use of operators is unbeatable. maybe not *the* best sounding around but you can your job done so quickly... and then you can always treat the samples you did with some serious comp/eqs in an audio editor for example. AFAIK live 5.2 is already full dual core compatible, and the announced release date of live 6 is around june/july
