Definately better then samples at least...
Good 808 drum machine alternatives?
Check out the MFB-503. I didn´t try it myself but some people told me it has a quite nice analog drum sound.

indeed. and the vermona dmk3 is good and some nice sounds on the korg emx too. prices range between 300-900. choose wisely. I suggest going to youtube and listening to some videos. people post themselves doing sh!t on these machines all the time and you can figure out what has the sound you want.Lord_Iron wrote:Check out the MFB-503. I was told that specific short clicky kick-like sound on those breaking style electro tracks is actually just the empty sound of the midi trigger on the machine. something like that. maybe someone who actually uses a real 808 could shed some more light on the matter for ya.AK wrote:...some sort of setting on a real 808 kick where you can get a real short 'clicky' kick, it's evident on a lot of old Electro records like, Hashim - Al Naafysh ( The Soul ) Paul Hardcastles '19', and numerous others.

I'm a little confused as the 808 didn't have midi though.
