The other thing that really got me on this thing is listening to professionaly mastered tracks and thinking why can't I learn to make a track sound like that? I do realize of course that there is a lot of talent that goes into good mastering. However it is still at least 1/2 art and 1/2 skill. I may...

instead of advising on this or that compressor i haven't seen the questions about his monitors, room, general experience etc. room/monitors are the most important factor, or not? you can't mix if you don't hear correct... there's various tricks to get round it, like using a slower attack, shifting the notes forward by varying degrees, and using the length of the note to determine its loudness. Can you explain what you mean? I've used a 101 for a long time but am not familiar with what you mean. Thanks much - very in...

I still don't get the mnml 'don't use compression' attitude. It's just a tool so your dynamics won't be too much. After all in dance music there isn't lots of dynamics in the instrument itself. Compression is the tool to get louder mixes. It's just how u use it. You're wicked when you can compress ...

compression on each channel - just for rock n rollers?
Still trying to improve my mixes. I've read a lot of the threads here and elsewhere recommend by mnml forum members. The primarily conclusion I've been coming to seems to be: no compression - except at the mastering stage. A quality mix should not need much compression at all except for loudness max...
