i use offline synthesis (the wavelab thing, but audacity for me) all the time. it is such a good way to get your bass and kicks to stay out of eachothers way. when you make the sound from the ground up like this you get to define exactly where its emphasis lies which makes getting it to sit right in...

there was an ableton live 5.xx update that allowed it to work with dual cores properly. look for that, it may solve your problem because i don't believe that update solved that problem.

for clean bass fm synthesis definetly rules the roost for me. operator is probably my favorite for this, mostly because i have used it for so long that it is really intuitive for me to use. but for the dirty stuff you really can't beat a 101, pro-1 or ms-20 they are just so damn grimey.

also since you are dealing with unbalanced connections (i run into the same problem with my machinedrum aswell) make sure to keep your audio cables from crossing your electrical cables. otherwise a gate or notch filter might do you well. i think that the waves plug mentioned above is what you are re...

if you are looking for a crunching type sound try modulating retrigger length and modulating pitch aswell. but will make or break the sound is what sample you start with. maybe try a record crackle/ pop as your source then modulate to hell. this is just an idea so don't hold me to it as i have never...

i use renoise but i hear that buzz is a really great program to use. the users seem to love how there are so many inventive machines created for it. though i have heard that it has its buggy moments, and can be prone to random crashes. however, my guess is that you are on a pc since you are looking ...
