removing noise from recordings

Post by vviizzoonn »

i like to record my ideas from the machinedrum to my hard drive via motu ultralite. however, there is slight noise. i really wish elektron would release their products with balanced outputs considering how much they cost. anyway, i know it depends on a multitude of variables ... however, what's the best way? automation?

probably from the synth, cables and the preamps all combined.

are you recording into a laptop with attached power supply ?
maybe you're experiencing a ground loop hum.....

otherwise tell us the rms level of the noise.

last resort
find out where the noise is coming from first... if you can't eliminate it and have to use noise reduction software then make small adjustments with the plug in and also use several passes to keep as much of the audio intact as you can :D

also since you are dealing with unbalanced connections (i run into the same problem with my machinedrum aswell) make sure to keep your audio cables from crossing your electrical cables. otherwise a gate or notch filter might do you well. i think that the waves plug mentioned above is what you are really looking for though.

bad words i read
now that my monomachine is on it's way to me

damn it why they don't implement balanced outputs as STANDARD in synths.
I know very little about electronics but i don't think it would have a massive impact on production costs, someone correct me please if i am wrong...
