i was at NSC one afternoon back around '94 and Ron had mentioned how he wanted to take the noise out of some Basic Channel DAT recordings that he had been recently mastering and they insisted he left the noise alone.

Just never send something "normalized" from Ableton or Soundforge. i do not understand why? From what I have noticed normalizing is like overcompressing the main channel. It kills the dynamics. but in theory it doesn't do anything to the dynamics, it simply increases the volume of the who...

personally, i prefer some grit, so i'll use a lower bit rate sample.

there's no right or wrong way though - sampled or synthesized - whatever works for you.

personally it's just easier for me to get a fuller mix using hardware. VSTi's work, but for me it's takes more effort. i think a lot of it is how you use it and your process of engineering the mix. sometimes layering the right instruments and using the right processing is *everything*... i agree wit...
