“Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” and its secret hero, Rufus: The first is one of the most beloved 80’s flicks, the second one of film’s most adorable, yet most underappreciated protagonists. It’s the latter that Heron has dedicated his newest, mind-blowing track to: Rufus, the emissary from the future, time travelling alongside high school sophomores Bill and Ted who are trying to save their butts from failing their high school history class. Those who have seen – and loved – the movie will probably recognize this funky character in Heron’s newest track. Those who haven’t will simply fall for the track’s catchy melody. With good reason, it is this track and no other that’s going to be released as Limikola’s first one-sided vinyl: For like Rufus, this EP is one of a kind.
It emerged with Heron embracing life with all its trifles and, as always, giving a full scope of his creative ability. After having had the basic idea of how the track should be structured in mind for months, the major part of it was produced within just one day.
In the movie, it’s Rufus who navigates Bill and Ted through the epochs, guides them and has the power to change the stream of history. Being mature, wise, and seeing things from a higher perspective, Rufus holds the qualities that the boys are missing. From here on, it was just a small step for Heron to set the character of Rufus to music, for this screwy but savvy emissary has attributes that he values himself: gaining wisdom and maturity, maintaining an objective viewpoint, and always seeing the big picture. It’s just these traits that are reflected in this latest release. So like Rufus himself, the track is funky and loony, yet at the same time powerful and structured – following the sound of M-nus, which is still Heron’s main influence and as such, infuses both “Rufus” and the entire sound of Limikola with its unique vibe.
