Wow! I did not see that coming. Out of all the brands out there I would have expected Technics to outlast the competition. Normally an event like this would call for a moment of silence but in this case perhaps it would be more fitting to break out some wax and get those platters spinning for a techno infused New Orleans style funeral.

My opinion... there is a demand but they price themselves out of the target market. Everyone and their little sister wants to have a set of Tec 12s but they are not so cheap. About $700-$800 a piece? Its been a long time since I looked. Truth be told... the average person who is in the demographic that is most likely to be their customer has other things they need to spend money on. Food, rent, car payments... and so on. That's too bad though. Who knows, maybe its a marketing ploy.

i got 2 used 1200 for 500$ (Can) 3 years ago....

I have yet to read any credible sources regarding this internet rumour. Especially, a official press release from Panasonic. From all of the forum talk, I've gathered that only certain models will be cancelled come February.

So here goes - the 1200MK5 and 1210MK5 WILL be discontinued leaving the 1210MK5G as the top of the range and most definitely NOT discontinued. It never was a limited edition, just a flagship special edition model. And the 1200 and 1210 MK2 will continue as normal. So now there's some distance between the MK2 and MK5G models instead having a middle MK5 deck to confuse matters. So it's vanilla Technics or the more expensive piano black extra pitched blue light luxury model left in the range.

Again, nothing solid yet.
