PROTECTORATE is the name of a collective of talented underground international artists who live in Berlin. It is a faceless and nameless project: they believe that music itself is more important than faces and names. They do not music for fame or success. PROTECTORATE is a mysteriouss and secret activity, nobody knows the identity of the producers, they want to remain underground and anonymous,
Music is more important than words, because music unifies people while words divide and made categories. You can call their music house, you can call it techno or you can call it minimal, but for them music is just a joyful expression of feelings to be shared with people. Of course, the quality of the sound has an outstanding role in their productions; all must be analogue, deep and extremely dynamic.
The first single is an huge dancefloor weapon, a modern classic.
Side A,"Be", is a deep house track with minimal techno sounds, it has been made to move the body and the mind. It starts with a solid bass drum and a funky bassline that keep rolling during the whole track. Suddenly, big low toms uplift the rythmical structure and build up the evolution of the rythmic cells of reduced soulful percussions until a spacey jazzy line of pad brings in the concluding element of the track, a bright tambourine that elevates the mood of the dancefloor.
Side B, "NM", starts dubby and deep but slowly evolves its dancefloor shaking power. Smoothly, an old-school synth that reminds Jeff Mills´s early works takes the track to an higher lever. An hypnotic string line finalizes the ascension and leaves the drums into an higher ground. When "NM" comes to its end, everbody would want to listen to it another time. It could last for hours.

It does not sound particulary bad, but the fact of having no background, no artwork, no univers, no ideas with the music makes it blank for me.

I need all of it to really appreciate music at it's highest level. I don't believe in the "just music counts" theory.

It depends of the people.

For me words help to listen deeper to the music, and I'm not the only one. And, you are, of course, not the only person thinking that only music matters.

but the second sample is good on my opinion...

really like the tracks, make my heart beat stronger. i found more on myspace protectorate collective - the pd track is really smooth. at last something different
