Howto: Funky bass?

Post by boudo »

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3rZ27wNHhU

I been producing for a while but i'm not that good just yet. I want help with producing a bass like this. It doesn't sound very synthesized at all, wich makes me wonder whether it's a sample or if it is a synthesizer after all.
Help, please!

Play with your filter envolopes.... raise the decay a bit..

Dont use sine waves, use saw / square waves instead...

Its a very simple sound to create, a few minutes of tweaking and youll get what you want....

I find the hardest parts with bass like this is getting the eqing right, as it has presesnce in the midrange as well as the lowrange...

Thanks for the fast answer. I'm gonna play around with my vst's a little bit and try to get a good result right now!

its also worth trying to duplicate the bass your using and split it up into a sub bass and a bass with more audible mid.

its easier to control the low and mid with eq then and fit your kick with it.

im sure most people layer their bass sounds, yeah?

Most synths have moog / 'classic' bass type presets, if youve not already made the sound yourself...
