The latest Metroline release sees StirSound label boss Ian Funk deliver a strong four track EP.
Can I Touch It? is a growling peaktime monster. The liquid bassline is kept in check by the sharp, precise percussion. Deep in the mix, simple melodies evolve out of single notes, carrying the track forward.
Gettit Debbie gets straight into the action. Tight claps and crisp hats hold together a bubbling rhythm while an infectious micro-melody play around in the foreground.
Grab Another is where the funk's at. Precise percussion loops give way to a melodic riff that slowly evolves throughout the track, becoming more and more complex before breaking out in fine style.
Hellowhat is a deep bass-laden affair. Mr Funk brings together heavy broken beats and percussion that builds up subtly to create a fluid, rolling groove.
About Ian Funk:
Ian has been involved with music since the age of 8, when he picked up his first guitar. At 15, he bought a set of second-hand turntables and everything changed. Now, at 22 he has a slew of remixes under his belt and stays busy running the StirSound Netlabel as well as working on various musical projects.
His productions range from techno to ambient. On his own, he writes under several guises such as Jon Doe, The Ambiguous They, and Apocalipstick. He is one half of DownTime alongside Adam Virga (aka April Vallen) and Middle Man Revolt with Leggo.
