compression in ableton

Post by vviizzoonn »

Is it just me or is Ableton's compression tool very decent, however lacking? I'm not looking for a compression tool that's too far advanced, I just want one that feels and sounds like milk. I like Ableton's, but maybe I'm not utilizing it properly. Are there any compression tools anyone could recommend? VST would be nice.

I'll dish out some cash for a proper one, if someone could sell me.

i think both the c4 and the ozone are overkill for mixing down in ableton. Those are both multiband compressors and are really not needed outside of mastering complete tracks. The stock one with ableton sounds like sh!t to me just like their reverb does. I would recommend the waves ssl plugins. These have become my favorite compression tools of all time next to actually using the SSL board they're modeled after.
The best compressors are the ones where it's hard to hear the compression effect so you have to judge the compression by paying attention to the dynamics. The ssl plugins are like that. I highly recommend them to everybody.

Moderately!

Most of the compressors sound fine, you just need to find the right settings you need ;)
