your beat making machines!

Post by Kilevox »

Hi guys,

like everybody of you all I want to learn more and more.

You know, there are a lot of beat machines (SOFTWARE) on the market.

For example :

Battery
GURU
Kinetic
Fruity Loops
.
.
.
.
.
.
and so on....

Which SOFTWARE do you use for your beats/grooves ?

What do you think are the benefits of some of these SOFTWARE ?

Do you all program MIDI patterns or do you use SAMPLES/LOOPS ?

Thank you all !

Greetz

i like to go for synthesis. (so no samples with a few exceptions)
you can design the sound exactly like you want it to.
inside the computer i use:

drumatic3 - pure synthesis with a lot envelopes, filters, osc's, noise gen's ; full tweakable with a great sound and .........it's freeware :-)

microtonic - also great sounding (a bit more "digital" than drumatic) and very tweakable + pattern seq.

outside of the box:
clavia nord modular wich gives me the most creative freedom for sounds.

my host is Live (what else?!?!)

for sequencing i like to load my created sounds im my mpc as wav files. this adds swing and a good feeling while programming my beats. better than clickety click with the mouse in my opinion.

midi sequencing - five12 numerology (in it, you can define rhythmic divisions mathematically as ratios which makes polyrhythming a lot less hassle to get your head around, I find. Plus you can easily change groove timings to syncopate to your hearts content)

for the hits themselves I use u-he's magical zebra 2. Great sounding and very easy to use modular soft synth. Lovely!

I use Ableton for hosting and other administrative business.

hope this helps, mark.

computer music's SR-202...
can't afford good software, but it does the job..
reason's drum machine is ok too, and the nn-xt sampler is fantastic.

personally i make most of my beats using single drum hits (some sampled, some synthed)..

The best way to do things is with no rules.

Almost 100% of my drums comes from hardware, but when I want to step it up a notch I use BB Cut in Supercollider.
