If artists themselves don't believe their (and other artists) music is worth paying for, then why would the general public.

We have to put our money where are mouth is and buy the tracks we like whether on vinyl or digital, as well as encourage others to do the same.

There will always be a segment of the population that will NEVER buy music, but I don't believe that this is by far the largest percentage.

Wanting to make a living off your art and the hard work and resources that are invested is not stupid or selling out, it's the best thing possible because it allows you to focus completely on being a better artist and creating more compelling and interesting work.

This does not just apply to music, but everything - photography, painting,
acting, directing, etc.

And Kudos to Hawtins on getting a big fat paycheck for endorsing a software he already was using. If Ableton wanted to cut us a check to endorse Live which we use as our primary production tool - we would not hesitate for a moment!!

untold freakyness...

Post by Shepherd_of_Anu »

I wonder how many people on here moaning and groaning about the piracy of electronic music are innocent of piracy themselves. Perhaps not piracy of electronic music but I bet the vast majority of these people have been downloaders of internet porn from tubesites, torrents or P2P softwares. I can just imagine them ranting on blogs and forums about these thieving music pirates whilst at the same moment keeping an eye on their unpaid-for downloads of untold freakyness. Where is all the guilt about that? I bet you don't even see it because you are so blinded by your porn guilt that you can't even see your piracy for what it is!

"tisk, tisk, tisk... for shame"

And please... nobody give that song and dance about how you have never watched porn. We know you have... you just don't pay for it.

This is an interesting scientific study about Legal, Economic and Cultural Aspects of File Sharing from Nico van Eijk, Professor of Media and Telecommunications Law.
