Thought i'd create a thread where anyone can ask anything about records... or anything else for that matter...
So to start...
Does anyone own original copies of the Main Street records?
I have a couple of repressed/remastered ones and they sound well below par to me... Dull, quiet, punchless. Surely, that is not how they're supposed to sound like?

Yes I have a few. sound wise - not at all to my memory. I thought they were very deep and warm sounding... others very loud and punchy.breton wrote:Does anyone own original copies of the Main Street records?

I also have many original studio one releases as well from the mid 90's. not sure of those represses didn't live up to the originals either...
Re: Random Questions Thread
I have "new day" and it sounds alright-ish
There are a few elements of the track (especially in the dub version) where I'm not sure if they're supposed to sound kind of blown or if it's from the pressing quality.

@damnwords, 'New Day' is one of the records i'm interested in. The other being 'Find a Way'.
Both sound sort of muffled compared to the CD.
When i bought them i expected to play them thin, but they sound so 'weak' that i have barely played them.
@John I have four Studio 1 records from (what i think was) the first round of represses (circa 2000) and they sound really good to me.

if you want i can make a recording sample for you
Re: Random Questions Thread
well, just listened to my copy of "new day".
doesn't sound off, but what can describe it best is "it's not too hot" compared to records pressed nowadays.
too lazy to find the "cd" rip to compare

Re: Random Questions Thread
Curious to know why that label, or their repressings doesnt sound like the originals. I've always assumed they had one of the best mastering studios on the planet... Thats kinda shitty...
Re: Random Questions Thread
from discogs: "We don't have the original but our copy of the repress is not as bad as people make it sound, much more of a gross over exaggeration. It's worth the $8 even if the tracks are a bit quiet compared to other vinyl."

edit: nonsense, thought it were written by the label, but it seems to be just anyone ...
