It's also stupid to pay a classic house name that much money. They put out great music way back when if you are a fan of house and you can never use good music as a judge of character but is this like a huge festival or something? If this is just a club gig that's going to be packed a thousand or maybe $500 seems reasonable to me. Again I'm from the states and not a promoter.

i dont know what US DJs playing for, but for 500-1000 you get in europe only very unknown DJs. maybe if they live in your town but certainly not if they have to go on a plane.

The promoters claim to have some friends who booked him, so. how come they didn't ask them for advice or a contact to his agent? I suspect that there's more to the story.
Also, isn't the scene in Australia mostly people under the age of 25, like in the US? It seems like a gamble to pay $5000 for an old school DJ whose name the kids might have to look up on the internet when the same amount could bring 2 or 3 talented and well-known modern DJs.
