Wow I had forgotten about that record it is fucking sick!
There was a really long thread about berghain techno and in it bass was discussed. So start by looking through that would be my tip!

Re: marcel dettmann bass
i read an interview once of marcel where he mentioned something about taking a full already made track and filtering it down to only the sub and then sidechain it to his track. it seems like a pretty good idea, you would get so much movement in the low end from all the other elements. i think he adds then a repeating higher note bassline on top of it to round it out.
Re: marcel dettmann bass
I think most of what is attributed to the bass is what is on top of it. Or better the addition of bass and the
stuff above forming a union.
The kick itself is pretty short. The bass isn't very loud, but it's allowed to fill up the rest of the beat.
Interesting stuff.

the sound i mean is the one that is gone at 0:27 and hits back at 0:30.

Do you mean the percussive sound? Try Chromaphone (http://www.applied-acoustics.com/chromaphone/trial/) and mess about with the tube model in it. Or record yourself hitting the other end of a PVC tube with a drumstick. Then add a nice dotted delay, a reverb, a band pass filter and some saturation.

Re: marcel dettmann bass
pretty much everything about this track has fascinated me since the first time i heard it. i constantly go back and listen to it and try to emulate some sounds just so i can figure out new tricks to use in other tracks i'm working on, but i never can get any of it right. it's eluded me pretty much since day one, but i never get sick of it.
