Woods N Bass eighth release 'The Funnel EP' comes to us by way of Will Azada. Making his debut in 2011 with a pair of driven house cuts on his own Proper Trax vinyl imprint, Will Azada now fires off a trio of floor-focused techno jams for us.
Giving a nod to his techno-minded 'other side' with the aptly-titled 'The Funnel EP', Will Azada establishes his intentions by opening with the straight-up, analog machine funk of 'Raw Drive'. True to its name, cutesy bells and whistles are kept to a minimum, instead focusing on thick drums, heavy low-end, and raw execution.
Progressing into deeper territory, 'We're Going There' keeps the tension locked with its teasing pace, accented with cutting percussion, atmospheric swells, and a hinting vocal that may require a certain state of mind to comprehend--letting you know, that yes, we are definitely going there...
Stepping to the dirtier depths of his head for the final piece, Will Azada brings us what he dubs, 'Sludge Funk'. Obvious from its title, the track takes no time to force the listener into its pool of sludgey bass funk and gritty vibes--capturing the dirt of sampled wax, the hiss of analog synths, and dubbed-up, spaced-out chords of an unknown heritage within its basement level reverbations.
