i have reason 3 and live complete with operator. so many strange and wonderful sounds my fingertips can twiddle but but i have no reall understanding or personal control of them. does anyone have any recommendations to get started with synthesis?

make one single long note to loop over and over

then just play with the LFO for a long time

see how the rate effects that 1 line

and play with the different waveforms


knowing that will help push the sound around the way you want

mlexicon has some good advice.

my addition would be to generate a simple waveform with only one
oscillator. draw out the same notes at your preferred repetition and
proceed to select/deselect every button you can while moving their
respective knobs.

my knowledge of sytnhs comes from the "whats that button/knob do?"
attitude.

Use the subtractor in Reason. I find sine waves are quality for minimal music :D
