If you are looking for a typical 80's sound, also look at the
Yamaha DX-7 (or TX-7 for the desktop variant). It is the inspiration for Native Instruments FM-7 (it could also load DX-7 sounds).
My father has a DX-7, and everytime I hear a 80's track or see a 80's movie there's always a sound that I recognize from that synth. Editing that synth was awful because there were no knobs, only buttons. But it's sound was very distinct.
He has some other synths from the late 80's/early 90's and everytime I hear a movie from that time period I always pick up sounds from that gear. I guess they weren't shy to use presets (for digital synths at least) in that time period
The Korg M1 was also very popular in that time (my father is still looking for one).
