depends on the frequency of the kick and bass really.

find out where they are clashing and cut there can work. also sometimes because of bad monitoring environment people have their bass and kick too loud.

you can't really tell, depends of the kick and bass sounds
check with a spectrum analyser and experiment...

Let your kick sit around 40-120hz, and let the bass line sit above 120hz.

Also, shorten the envelopes on your bass patch and write around your kick patterns. You have to give the speaker an opportunity to rest so that it can push air.
