AJ Reynolds - The Funk Cop 100BPM

Post by tone-def »

Something a bit slower than what you would normally expect from me. i hope this kind of thing gets really big someday or at least as a popular backroom sound.

nice track there - good live feel to it. sounds particularly good with those chords coming in during the last section. cool stuff.

it was played live by me (with a few edits) on a keyboard.

fair enough :)

kind of interest in what you don't like about it. pattern or instrument?

No offense taken roqqert.

i've used Logic for years, but for the way i work it kind of sucks.

The lower notes being played on the bass guitar sound like they are clashing with the kick drum and this is creating a mucky sound at times.

Apart from the kick drum its the only bass sound happening in the track and it sounds lost, especially with all the syncopation that is happening with the percussion. The bass could do with a basic melody and a low pitch to give the groove, then layer a counter point melody on top at a higher pitch.

But to be honest i've never had any musical training, so i'm only going on what i can hear. So i might be wrong.

i dont think the bass is effecting the kick? i like it, its got a real old school quality and its something different, even though its 100bpm it doesnt sound to slow due to how strong the kick is, its one of them tunes that if you heard out its really gonna set the tone of what to expect and gives a vibe off on its own, definitely prefer the latter part of the tune as it goes on, the little bass guitar stabs and pad, with that lead sound good, nice work :D
