I have Bm5A Dynaudio, and the problems comes the same for me, It doesn't show anything below 50hz. There is a Sub you can buy but so far I try to get a balance mixing with AKGheadpones. Another thing that works great mixing with headphones is getting a different view for Reverbs and Space so you can get a bigger view that working only with monitors.

Thx to you all, seemed to me they were flattering too (the HD25s).
Must means those I have are as good as I first thought they were, also means more work to be done on that one track :x

As for ME using cans, these do : http://mastering.subvertbeats.com/ and everyone i've talked to who have worked with them ended up very very happy. Plus Macc is a super nice chap, always very helpfull and very knowledgeable. Also worth checking his own productions to see where he stands at. He's doing dnb though.

A/B'ing tracks always helps, as much as referencing on several different systems.

checking those guys kit list, they also have really good midfields too.
so they arent just auditioning on cans.

i realise that some people simply cant use monitors becasue of their domestic situation, but if you are going to be serious you really need a good pair of monitors with good low end reproduction, at least down to 37Hz. even if you can only check on them when the neighbours (girlfriend) are out.
better still get a new techno-girlfriend and move :)

@Steevio,

Mind you they started doing this mastering business before having those monitors. There used to be a Q&A on dogsonacid.com where he was specifically mentionning how he'd rather work on cans rather than work in a badly treated room. Which most of uss bedroom producers have got...
Now his business is doing rather better, thus him grabbing those fancy monitors :D

Yeah I use Sony MDR-V700's because most of my mixing is done at 3 or 4 in the morning.. I haven't checked out the HDs yet but I can say my own cans are pretty good, they have good lowend and produce the mids and highs well too.

Regardless though, I try to check my mixes on as many different sound systems as possible: My car (it has a sub), my house, headphones, shows, friends speakers, etc...

I've heard really well-mixed songs and they sound great on every system!

I found this interesting - legendary house music producer Marshall Jefferon states: "...all my mixes are done 100% ITB-on headphones-Sennheiser 595's..."

Found this on Gearslutz:
