Heavenly sounding instrument...

Post by maxeinsoul »

Hey, something like two weeks ago in Hackescher Markt, I saw a guy playing this kind of flying saucer in the streets. Being in a "green mood", it immediately made me stop to watch - and hear!

Back home, I finally found out what it was, an instrument called Hang Drum, hand made in Switzerland. Some of you might know it allready, but I think it can be intersting to share.

So here are two videos from youtube that show guys playing it :

So I checked the web to know where I could get it. It seems like there's a long time to wait to get one of these, but then, you're free to design your own (key, etc). It's pretty expensive (about 1200 euros from what I've heard, but you can find cheaper ones).

Enjoy ;-)

yeah i did a great session last year with this guy playing Hang, i was doing some ambient electronics and he was jamming over that. what a shame i didn't record it.

apparently there are very few people in the world that can tune it, i know there's one in switzerland.

That is such a beautiful instrument! Thanks for posting that. I had not heard of a hang drum before. I have always like the sound of steel drums but this takes the sound/material to a whole new level. I hope this instrument becomes something that is easily obtainable one day.

Yeah its a great instrument. Never heard it first hand but some one sent me a video. Theres only 2 guys who make them and you need to write them a letter in order to be put on a waiting list. I dont they have even been in production for the last year as the owners have taken a break from production.
There's some info here
