Best year for minimal?

Post by Mise »

I'm in search of some older gems and trying to filter my search in years. Which year do you think was the best?

On a side note, just been listening to the Akufen Fabric CD an it wicked!

If you like something different, you should check the context free media label (Sutekh's label). It's a dream team of "minimal techno". (Sutekh, Portable, Murcof, Ben Nevile, Kit Clayton...)

Try the context unravelled CD, a mad mix by Sutekh presenting a collection of great tracks from his label.

Period : between 1999 and 2005.

if you like that akufen mix you want to check stuff between 2001-2004. you can also find some gems if you listen to these labels; perlon, 7th city, playhouse, circus company, force inc, telegraph and cynosure. more recently 'minibar' and 'floppy funk' have done some good sh!t. that should be a good place to start.

almost forgot tom ellis and leif.

i'd say more or less as above

but as a genre itself - the kind of music mainly appreciated on this site, i'd choose 2004-5. a lot of good stuff coming out back then.

Mid 90s for traditional minimal. The "mnml" stuff that is considered minimal today probably topped off in 2006 in my opinion. There were a ton of ibiza-anthem type minimal jams: Rej, Street Knowledge, Dump Truck, Seeing Through the Shadows, Tropical Melons, Darkness (Radio Slave Remix), Granada Granada, you name it...these tracks may not be up your alley, but they were much bigger successes than today's successes.

Since then, it's been pretty watered down. Thank you, Nick Curly.
