Hi Rick,
your link, even after copy-pasting the relevant part which is

http://www.pcmusic.org/software/release ... 2794/view/

redirects to this:

http://www.pcmusic.org/software/softwares.php?lang=en

This page has about a thousand plugins :) Can you tell what specific plugin you were thinking of when you were posting that link?

Cheers

Seriously agree with the whole overuse of glitch type plug ins. Yeah they sound cool but each do have a very distinct character to them and after a while the sound becomes very recognizable. In a live performance situation I think these plugins can be effectively employed, but in the studio their use just screams lazy to me. Because at the end of the day when you have all the time in the world to make music in your studio you shouldn't be using a square peg in the square hole plugin to achieve the desired effect.

Cut and paste works much better, sounds better, is more original and gives you the producer a much greater level of creative control and freedom over the sound.

Bah... I wouldn't dismiss that effect at all. The beat repeat is a great effect. There are so many fantastic ways to use it.

I like the ableton beat repeat plugin better then the others because it is possible to achieve a very deliberate amount of control over the plug-in if you're not using it in a random/chance mode. You can manually chop things with precision should you so choose.

I occasionally use some max tools that better achieve this effect, but outside of that environment beat repeat is pretty handy for manual chopping.
