Maybe it comes down to intent. If the intent is to delude others (by trying to pass off the inferior as something greater), or to delude yourself (by pretending that you're a "serious artist") then I'd say the enterprise is somewhat corrupt and probably pretty pointless.

However, for me, if all you want is to give yourself and a few/a few more/as many as possible people something to enjoy, then I'd say the enterprise is as valid as any other.
