Fractal music

Post by Zinthek »

Does anyone have any experience with creating electronic fractal music?
And do you know any electronic music producers who have made fractal music?
Thanks to anyone who can help me.

i have created fractal music using csound and python. "the csound book" and the fractal music chapter contained on the cds that come with it turned on the lightbulb in my brain.

much of the experimental music that i make is algorithmic. especially on the jbjh - shpwrk cd released by experimeda http://www.experimedia.net/index.php?ma ... ucts_id=14 (bsp! yeah!!!).

here are two techno tracks i wrote that sparsely use some algorithmic techniques:

i have been writing software for about 15 years now so i think that may have helped a bit. but i think that after a bit of work it shouldn't be too hard for most people familiar with synthesis design. the construction and routing of synths is the same as usual only you define everything with words. the scoring is very straight forward as it is one line per note and you program based on time.

just make a simple sine wav osc. then send it a few notes. chapter 1 from the csound book is available free online. http://www.csounds.com/chapter1/index.html it told me everything i needed to know to get started.

one of the things that i like best about it is that it is inherently microtonal since you program based on frequencies not notes (although there are plenty of conversion tools) and time is also programmed on a microscale based on seconds as opposed to bpm and time signature.
