I can assure you it's legitimate. The only way it could probably be rigged is if someone bought their own music to boost it up the chart.
major labels have been doing that for years...
But you can only buy a track 1 time, as far as I know on Beatport (of course, if you force 100 employees to all buy the track, then it helps).

ps: but you're right on the other thing, but I think it was more seen on the CD marked, right? I remember a situation in Denmark, where a father bought 100's and 100's of his daughter and sons CD's to boost their sales so they would end in top 20, but he was caught, haha.

I remember seeing something on tv where quincy jones had staff/others buy up 50,000 cd's (or more) to get top placement in the charts for a specific week.

which created news / more hype / and momentum.

major labels during their prime had gigantic budgets....

I'm sure if we look we can find many more... - (if) they got caught doing it..

the show may have been speaking of an album released in the 80's... if I remember correctly..

also: this 20 min clip - portion of a show I watched must have been over 10 years ago.. perhaps it was 5,000 not 50,000. either way it was a significant amount. perhaps it was 5,000 just to be top sales for that week. I do remember is was a huge producer here in the U.S. with a major label..

I didn't have any luck trying to dig up quincy and anything related - yet..

naa, me neither...
I think 5.000 sounds more accurate, even though the 80ties was crazy

P.B. is right, you can only purchase a track once on each credit card. Also, you can't buy banner space on Beatport either.

As for buying into your own productive, this still happens a lot in Hollywood. Movie studios have been known to spend millions of dollars on buying up movie tickets so movies get moved up the charts.

Clees: whatever.
