following closely on the heels of a stunning debut release, berlin mitte / lausanne based avant-garde label MINIMOOD now gets together with tokyo's notorious minimalist SO INGAWA and paris' rising underground revelation SEUIL for this second outstanding MINIMOOD release: the MEIBA EP.

SEUIL's gyoza addict remix of sekito opens on side a1 – and if you didn't think it was possible for minimal to really groove – then just listen to this!!! SEUIL sprinkles some of his unique magic dust over the original sekito track to create a masterful blend of funked-up synth stabs, twisting flanged dna snippets, dense understated percussion and bubbling bass to form this essential infectious groove. somehow the track manages to sound familiar, yet completely fresh at the same time. the track wriggles, burps and spits its way deeply into your subconscious – so much such that it will keep reappearing in your head and twirling your mind well into the following week…

with the original 'sekito" on b1, SO INGAWA shows his superb production skills with this intricate collage of watery melodic elements, chopped vocal takes and other random elements stitched onto the underlying subliminal groove. SO expertly interplays the various elements against each other to build and release tension and emotion as the track skips along. an intricate and bittersweet masterpiece- this is minimal at its very best.

SO INGAWA further demonstrates his talents with "usui" on b2. more immediately dancefloor friendly than b1, the insistent drone and other rhythmic elements bring to mind a night locomotive trundling through a mysterious Jarmusch-esque landscape filled with strange characters, places and moods. the rumbling bassline and drone drive things forwards, and a catchy off-beat percussive melody adds additional interest. over this SO cleverly layers freaky one-off sounds and other elements which fade in and out of the scene as "usui" trundles on through to the morning without missing a beat. truly magnificent!!!

many thanks for the feedback guys !

marc will for sure provide us with more feedback once the promotion is over..., but now I cannot resist of not putting some of the early comments we received into the thread.

so, here we go:

mark henning (frankie, einmaleins, foundsound, freude am tanzen…): i'll play the seuil remix and b1!

++++

justin drake (member of peace divison/ nrk sound division, crosstown rebels): like sekito, will def play!

++++

jeff samuel (poker flat, trapez, logistic, spectral sound): choice cut for me is the b2 of the minimood. nice late-nite cut, will play!

++++

remute aka denis karimani (num, smallville, areal....): ...ziemlich wuchtige sounds, die ganz sicher kleben bleiben. düster und cool

++++

someone else (foundsound): the so inagawa release is downright amazing.

++++

best,
hubert
