multisampling

Post by accdntly »

the potential of "multisampling" in programs like ableton sampler and ni kontakt confuse me. do they offer creative possibilities for our music? why and how? so far for me ableton simpler works fine, find a nice sample and play it in lenghth and key you want. could exploring multisamling open some new creative possiblities or is it inteded more for people who write standard "song" music? thanks!

it just means that the sample you're using dosent sound too streched when played at the extreme registers. if you only have one sample of a low octave piano, it may sound unatural if played high, therefore you need more than one root sample(at differnt pitches)

you could also have different instruments spread across different octaves.
i think multisampling is also used when you have an instrument with a tone that changes the harder its played. so velocity layers can be made with a guitar string played lightly then hard. there is change of harmonic frequencys. the end result wud sound much more natural. that velocity just changing volume.

Or you could have a different percussion sound on each note and have a big kit in just one sampler. Although in Ableton that would be handier using Simplers in a rack. Or those new drum racks when Live 7 is released of course :-)
