there was a series on UK television recently called 'How Music Works' and it really covered alot of ground on the basics of rhythm, composition, how bass works etc.
it was an excellent introduction to anyone who wants to dig a bit deeper, and gain a greater understanding of whats going on when they write music.
i think theres a book that goes with the series, i'll find out, and post a link.


oh, please do it. i would really love to catch that documa.

yes this is interesting. u can go deep into music psych...

youre totally right mate, but they arent really rules, they are guidelines which have stood the test of time, about 30,000 years of time.
i find that most minimal music i hear rarely even breaks out of the most basic rules of rhythm.
and i think we should be looking to the spiritual beauty of the vastly diverse and complex world of tribal rhythms before we look to the rigidity of the trendy minimal labels for our inspiration.
