John Tejada Parabolas... scruffy vinyl?

Post by scratch_eddie »

Hey, I got a copy of Parabolas on Friday, was very excited as I thought the Unstable Condition single was fantastic. Yet when I opened the shrinkwrap and looked at the vinyl it had grubby marks all over both discs, like a record that's been kept in a dusty warehouse for years rather than a pristine new pressing. Also, tracks 1 and 2 on disc 1 have big fat scratches in them; they don't skip but there are audible pops throughout both tracks.

I expected far better from Kompakt, a label of such repute. Has anyone else had this problem or am I just really unlucky?

probably problems at the pressing plant. Get a new one from the shop.

Yeah if you call your shop, you'll probably get a new copy or a refund... Happened to me once...

Seems a bit stupid to post it on a forum as a first port of call.

The likely situation - it was listened to by numerous people in the record shop and therefore got dirty.

Is the album any good, btw?

Nice one, cheers for the slightly obnoxious reply! Is it not more stupid to insult a stranger without provocation than to ask, in a friendly tone, whether anyone else has encountered a similar situation? If everyone derided people who show curiosity then civilisation wouldn't have seen much progress ;)

I was only curious about the possibility that the whole batch of pressings were damaged at the plant, which would mean my replacement copy would also be scruffed up. Anyway, the guy from the shop said he'd had a look at some of the others and they're all a bit messy; reckons it was a dirty lacquer at the plant. I'm hoping my replacement will be free from the scratches as they're what annoyed me rather than the inaudible weird marks.

And yes, the album is pretty good in my opinion, but I prefer his 'Cleaning Sounds is a Filthy Business'.
