midi controllers

Post by steevio »

i'm in need of a new midi-controller for use in a live club situation, and i'm wondering what anyone would suggest for my needs (from personal experience)
i'm currently using a BCR2000 which is actually very useful apart from one thing,
i need 8 faders and 8 rows of two knobs or possibly 3 knobs.

i like the LED rotary encoders on the BCR2000 because i can see whats going on easily in a dark club, and the knobs are great for EQ / effects etc. but not good for track volume, they are too inaccurate.

the BCF looks good but only has one row of knobs (no good for EQ)

i could get a BCF and use it alongside my BCR, but thats getting way too bulky.

so i need a compact solution. i'm not interested in triggering clips, as i work in arrangement view, so i dont need trigger pads.

any ideas guys ? (apart from a UC33e)
LED encoders would be preferable.

why not the uc-33? It's got everything you're looking for. or it must have LED encoders? I just got one and it's great :)

looks like ive already made my mind up its going to be a CME bitstream 3X. (and a pair of glasses and a lamp)

i like the review descriptions of it as 'bombproof'

the UC33 is cheap and cheerful but a little too 'Fischer-Price'
probably wouldnt last with my heavy handed manipulation.
still, its well spec.ed for the price

Tricky request. Heard good things about those VMX ones tho:

Downside: only 6 faders.

Well, i was just about to dig out the Bitstream, too. Very rugged thing!
Always think twice.

hehe, i hear what you're saying. the bitstream was my ultimate choice but i thought i'd skrimp for now and go with the uc33. i was thinking the orbital headgear might help too ;)
