Spacious pads

Post by nrjizer »

Quick question,

I'm having trouble getting the particular spacious/airy quality out of my pads that I want. It's the sort of sound that guys like Vince Watson often use in deep techno... the sound obviously has a lot of reverb, delay, and stereo panning, but it's still rather up front and clear, the 'verb isn't very cavernous. I put a sample up on soundcloud, you can hear the pad in question come in around the 30 second mark:

I can upload a few more samples but I think that one is a good example. It's very spacious but the reverb sounds modest. Any advice for creating such a sound? My attempts usually end up with a reverb/stereo spread that is too cavernous, if that makes any sense.

eq and reverb should produce that if you tinker around enough. Thin out the mid range and perhaps use two different but very similar pads on the same midi notes to build strength without more volume.

Just guessing.
