ELEPHANT PIXEL - ESTRELLITA
Text by: planetkat.com

Almost four years after the release of his first longplayer “Folk, Lisergia,
Computers” Elephant Pixel’s follow up, “Estrellita”, which comprises of
fourteen tracks with contributions by N.E. Stofenmacher, Julie Amadeo,
Pablo Heredia and Miniroecke, is coming out right now — on the new
Lomidhigh sub label Lomidhigh Unlmtd, especially called into existence by
label honcho Daniel Lyons to go beyond the limits of limitless music. Right
onto a star: “Estrellita”. Here we are.

Initially, the dreamy album — resonating IDM and experimental sounds
mixed with crafty song writing — sounds like the most melodic come down
you will ever go through: It’s Sunday late afternoon and time seems to
drift like a “Pink River”. The weekend’s lost its magic, the mind is in a
state of confusion — thousands of ideas and impressions swirl around
relentlessly in the drained brain and make up a giant multi-colored ball of
confusion: “Estrellita” is a perfect soundtrack material for an episode in
the bed, with headphones on.

Powered-out cloud-watching episodes take turns with deep introverted
trips into the subconscious of the pixilated Elephant: “I guess the lyrics of
the album,” confesses a beaming Franco di Lorenzo aka Dilo who is the
sole driving force behind the project Elephant Pixel, are just as
melancholic and erratic as the music itself. Mumblings even.” Just next to
your pillow, underneath your pillow, Elephant Pixel explores the outer
limits — no, running away from them actually — of sanity, or is it insanity?
“Sweet insanity” confesses Dilo. Okay: hopeful graceful sweet insanity.
“Exactly. In the end it has a lot to do with my last relationship”.

Aha… so…Girls drive Dilo into mumbling sweet insanity? “Yap yap yap. I
did the album in the period while and after I was in an intense
relationship, and some moments were very dark. And some just very
nice.” Listening to ‘Running away’, we all realize we have been stuck once,
been there, done it: “I’m running away… I’m searching a way….I got my
self into a really fucked up situation… and I have no idea how to get out of
there.” So is “Deep In The Sun”: The lyrics are an almost heart-breaking
register of a celebrated disconnection called love. “We went through stuff
like this”, sighs Dilo: “So that’s good, that’s pop music. You can take it and
make it yours.” Relating to Dilo’s finest Beatles moments is what makes
this album so amazing while its universality breathes the uniqueness of
invention. “I also love the Beach Boys. I focus on their music. And their
behavior–I am quite into their behavior as well actually.”

Well, nonchalance — the trait of remaining calm and seeming not to care,
the casual lack of concern — is irresistible. And almost as good as music
itself: Elephant Pixel exemplifies this as turns his personal journey
through emotions and introverted moments into a musical mind trip that
we can all relate to while we tumble through his post-lysergic day dreams.
“Underneath my pillow… I keep things for you… looking for a signal…
looking for a light… looking for a spot where we can fly… searching for a
place where we can hide…thinking for a place where we can hide”.

Little memory puzzle pieces fall into place while rhythms dance out of
order. Crackling and humming atmospheric noises morph into gentle
guitar plucking. Accompanied by Franco’s soft and laid-back voice, it’s
hard to not get sucked into the universe filled with tiny little blips of bliss:
“I know you want some details… Words that I can’t find… whatever you
are looking for…” — On another star, in the middle of the musical galaxy
right in your head: ‘Estrellita’

Bruno's remix is mind-blowing, while Underneath my Pillow sounds like an ambient version of the stuff done by Sore Eros / Banjo or Freakout, so my cup of tea  really really nice!
