minimalistic rock

Post by NilsTentacles »

well, before I got into minimalistic electronica I listened to alot of other types of music, as probably most of you did, one of the styles I enjoyed (still do) was minimalistic rock.

it's not commonly known as 'minimalistic rock' - but I prefer that term, because it actually make some sense. the music I am talking about usually go under terms like 'post rock' and 'kraut rock'.

I just want to make clear this isn't like steve reich & the gang, which is more like "academic minimal".

so it would be fun to hear from you if you recognize this music!

here are some of my favourites I have discovered during the years:

Acid Mothers Temple - Wild Gals A Go-Go (2000)
Anna Homler, Geert Waegeman, Pavel Fajt - Macaronic Sines (1995)
Ash Ra Tempel - Inventions For Electric Guitar (1974)
Can - Ege Bamyasi (1972)
Circle - Andexelt (1999)
Incredible Expanding Mindfuck - Have Come for Your Children (2001)
Magic Carpathians Project - Ethnocore (1999)
Pavel Fajt - Drum Trek (2001)
Psycho-Baba - On the Roof of Kedar Lodge (2000)
Rovo - Flage (2002)
Ueh - Ueh (2002)
Guru & Zero - Makoto Mango (2004)
Theo Travis & Steve Lawson - For the Love of Open Spaces (2003)
The Danubians - s/t (2000)
Zone Six - s/t (1998)
Brainticket - s/t aka Cottonwoodhill (1971)

yes Renze, I'd say so too. although I've only heard very little of their music.

some of the more famous names would be the early german 70's bands: Neu!, Can, Faust, early Kraftwerk...

and from contempory bands I think Godspeed has made their self a name, along with Tortoise.

It's great though. 8)
