sexuality and making electronic music

Post by tone-def »

I was talking with my friend the other day about Heartthob and he was saying he could tell Heartthob was gay from listening to his music. I found this rather interesting and in a strange why kind of understood what he meant. It was quite strange because he didn't know who heartthob was. I don't know maybe it was the name that gave it way. What do you think? Do you think sexuality has an influence on the music someone makes?

Odd yet interesting post. I wouldnt think sexuality has an audible footprint. However any music you'd call playful or literally, a bit "bent" sounding, could (conceivably, with the right drugs) be associated with campness. However alot of this music developed amongst and around gay men and i dont think much detroit sounds particularly "camp", do you?

yeah not sure i would be able to tell, as was mentioned, early house music is gayer than musicals. what is gay anyway when refering to music? its hard for a music to sound like being attracted to the same sex. confusing.

I think a producers sound is not affected by sexuallity. Perhaps there were sounds from something well known in the gay community in his tracks? Other than that I dont see how you could tell from production technique and style if someone is gay or not.
