That Legowelt plugin doesn't seem to work, I don't understand why not.

I recommend Oatmeal, good for drones, soundscapes and what not. If you want to shell out some cash, check out Linplug Sophistry, which is geared towards just that purpose. Two other free synths, that are good for pads and textures that I use myself are Crystal and Chimera.

There's tons of good freeware synths out there, KVR has an excellent search engine, http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php
