Im sure there must be lots of alternatives that we've never even heard of available for a decent price in Hong Kong!

I know we got off topic... but what are you meaning by bands? like full set bands with guitars and drums and stuff? or do you mean like recording some bits of some instruments here and there for edm productions?

Cause your gonna want quite a bit of mics, inputs, and some sort of mixing desk if you want to record a band. or you'll have a disjointed workflow.

I imagine their singer would have a mic, and maybe a stand, but that's about it. The scene there is pretty ghetto and very raw, which is all part of the allure. Here's a decent, short documentary about an American band touring China: Rock Under the Red Flag. The last couple chapters show a lot about the local scene.

Yeah these are awesome. I've been interested in this technology for a while. I'll look into it more, thanks.

There's a half-mile street here full of new/used electronic equipment -- some of it being sold on the street, some in authorized stores, some in dark alleyways... I went there last week and didn't even know where to begin. I saw a huge pile of keyboards and synths in one store that I had to just ignore til I get more extra cash!

Actually, I mean both. I think the Zoom H4 looks pretty much perfect for what I want to do with my EDM sample/recordings thing. Recording bands is a little more cumbersome, considering that I'll need mics/inputs for vocals, guitar (x2(?)), bass, drums (multiple). I suppose 8-tracks would work fine, as I'm going to be recording mostly noise/punk rock -- not Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
