Help? What Headshell's are these on Technics 1210?

Post by sipage »

Can anyone help?

What is the headshell on the Technics 1210 being used in this video?

https://youtu.be/i24WRnzqJKE

If you go straight to 0:20 into the video you get a pretty decent view.

Also, can anyone recommend alternative headshells for mounting the Shure m4-77 cart?

I've seen Cassy in this Mixmag video at Hardwax using an interesting headshell in the video below at 17:29 with the Shure m4-77 cart, can anyone identify them?

Here is the video:

The covers used to be super common several years ago.

gosh - still digging...

edit : this is all I could even remotely find at first glance :

I'm sure you could always paint it matte black, ect...

Still looking around.

Gang, I think there has been a misunderstanding. I'm looking at the headshell. The headshell is where the carts and stylus are attached to on the tone arm.

Headshell example:

No worries, perhaps it may help someone else looking for those...

Little grey area with "needle cartage headshell" vs. 'turntable headshell".

That was a fun rabbit hole as they seem to be much harder to find now.

I have white labels, ortofon's, and Shure, and by far shure is my favorite for vinyl *Rick Wilhite turned me on to them many years ago), and also recently confirm sometime ago I even liked it better for digital too.

Funny I also looked for these Shure 44-7 mounted with the headshell sometime ao after having to change my first one and wasn't' able to find them. They used to sell the hardshell mounted already to the Shure needle sometime ago, but ... IF... you can find them sold together "as a pair" sort to speak, this "might" be a workaround.

Exchanging them took way longer than I thought, and I'm sure I jacked up the first one I did, but in the end, perhaps you may get the angle wrong, and have to readjust it again. I think I was too impatient by the time I got it on mostly correct the first time I just ran with it for a few months.

My advice, get in a very comfortable chair, with an adjustable light and very small tools like you're putting together a model airplane. I thought I'd hook it up in 3-5 mins, but it was a good 20 mins+.

* Those +4g weight screws are nice which aren't an option on the older versions.

Might have to pick me up some of those.

* Technics Version : Looks like Amazon is getting into the game $83 w/weight
- https://www.amazon.com/Technics-Headshe ... B00B1GF1OW

Found a few here for $30, as I think their patent ran out so even an off brand now should fit, as I think they are all universal now? They have a non-weight American turntable one (off brand) for $11.32 too.

** $30 Non-Technics w/weight - Pioneer if you're not picky
https://www.guitarcenter.com/search?typ ... +cartirage
As it looks like the weight only comes with one version.

*** Audio Technica w/weight for $30
https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-U ... D16EATZS9H

* No 4-gram weight options:
- A 5 pack Technic's for $150 on ebay - https://www.ebay.com/p/Technics-SFPCC31 ... 106&chn=ps

- Single $40 Technic on ebay - https://www.ebay.com/p/OEM-Phono-Cartri ... 477&chn=ps

So $11-$85 depending on what you pick for a singular version of what you need.

Cheers for that, I'm going to have to go through the links one by one. I have already purchased additional Technics headshells to mount my Shure's on last year. I have my Stanton Al-500's mounted on the original technics headhsells that came with the decks and I have my Ortofon Nightclubs. I am looking for the headshells in my OP because I am experiencing a bit of drop out / left humming on one of the tonearms/ headshells and I attempting to see if a different model / connection will resolve. it's an intermittent problem, removing and reattaching several times in a row or spraying with switch cleaner and wipe has previously solved it, but I can see it becoming worse at one point and needing a new tonearm.
