Recording vinyl

Post by ParanoidDancer »

Maybe not fully related to producing but I felt this was the best place to post it.

I recently bought Serato Scratch and would like to digitalize my vinyl collection. I was wondering what hardware/software you use. I own a pair of Shure M44-7 needles cause they are advised by serato but I was told they are to high on bass to record your vinyl. Is that correct? And if so what needles should I buy? I heard some people advise needles of 200 euro's but that sounds pretty pricey to me. Maybe there is cheaper alternative with reasonable results.

I'm thinking of using the sample from vinyl function in serato to record my stuff (cause i won't need a preamp that way). Should i normalize the recordings and if so what software do you use for that?

Any experiences?

If the recording has too much bass just do like a dj would and turn the bass down when playing the record.

But when you download from the Internet quality is not always good.

Do Serato and FS accept Flac files ?
