Happy to see this topic because I wonder exactly the same thing !

Here is a complete test of the macbook (attention : the macbook has a 2Ghz CPU and macbook Pro has a 1.83GhZ CPU) :

One thing is that Apple doesn't offer 7200 rpm drives in the MacBooks.

ah okay but it shouldn't be a problem, to build in a faster drive by yourself...

@vince - thanks for the test! :) [/list]

And replace it doesn't seem as difficult as in IBook ...

I'll probably order one in few days but after the 28th because the price of intel's core duo processor will decrease (and thus the price of macbook will maybe be decrease or they'll maybe be delivered with a better processor ??) :

(Sorry it's in French ... I'll maybe translate it later in the day but now I am in the hurry)

i think, you'll need a lot of ram in macbook because the video-ram will be taken from your normal ram.. hmmm but i think, the videocard for macbook pro is not about 700 or 800 euros/dollars worth...

If you're not a gamer I think you won't need the Ati Radeon from BookPro. Anyway 1Gb of Ram seems to be a good choice.

I'll certainly order mine in 2 or 3 days :

- 2Ghz Processor
- White case
- 1GB of Ram
- HD 80 Gb @ 5400 rpm

With the student shortage it will cost 1380.85€ ... Nice price for a nice machine I think.
