Which hardware drummachine for house/techno kicks

Post by loulou »

Hi all

Im looking into buying a drum machine for making my own drums (especially kicks).

I want to get that deep, heavy, punchy kicks like the old guys, but also like the ones DJ W!ld makes (not that i know if he use hardware or not)

But what machine is best for this? Im not into buying an old used 808 or something like that, but rather something new.

I have looked at the new Roland TR8 (AIRA) and Elektron.. What can you guys recommend? Also i need a hardware compressor and im into Warm Audio's WA76.

Can anyone help me out here? I want to go for a more heavy and punchy sound in my kicks, will i be able to do that with the TR8 and maybe the Warm Audio WA76?

Thank you!

I'm not too sure how DJ W!ld's kicks sound but Vermona have a machine especially for making just kicks.

You could really work on your kicks using this, tuning a lot of different parameters to get the sound you're looking for.

I used an MBase01 for a few years now. A buddy has the 11 and it's much better, more flexible. An infinity of usable, solid punchy kicks.

Definitely the 11 over the 01. Grab an 01 if you see it for real cheap.

At Musikmesse I tried both the TR-8 and the new Analog Rytm by Elektron.

How much Sound Design and flexibility do you prefer?
The TR-8 gives you an enjoyable Jam and instant gratification, but you're limited in your sound palette.
The Analog Rytm is a beast, with a lot of flexibility – so a bit more fiddling, lots of possibilities. Keep in mind the Rytm is three times the cost of an TR-8.

I use the Vermona DRM1 MK3. Its perfect for punchy and deep kicks. Especially if you're into Villalobos, Lodebauer or romanian kind of sounds.

Haven't used any Vermona stuff, but it definitely has me curious!!
