you crack me up dude. definitely go for it. i dont do it but should, but do yourself a favor and save snapshots on your totalmix for each project so the routings stay in tact for every project. ive had huge headaches after changing routings in totalmix which i do all the time and then loading back large projects and not hearing half the music and trying to figure out what the fck is going on. i wish there was a way not to use totalmix at all so ableton could control all the routing just from the live mixer. if anyone that rocks an RME knows how to do this please advise
who else told you to get the dbox?
a hot tip since you have the fireface is you can use the matrix to monitor the analog sum back through the digital connection and swap between two sets of monitors.
if you get it use it creatively and not just for summing. well not just mix summing. i love summing groups like drums, recording and then moving along with the project. you can really get alot of space in there
i think there is still something to be said about analog mixing, because summing is only 50% of the magic of analog mixing. the other half is the faders not being stepped digitally. that said as long as you set midi boundaries for faders you can get "enough" resolution in a digital mix where it still sounds tight
Analogue mixers
Re: Analogue mixers
My buddy Patrick (rift) told me to get one. He has super" integrity" about sound. Swears by his and also another recent RME convert. He is using this along with the slate VCC plugins as well as the d-box.
My digital in/out are already dedicated to my Adat breakout box. And unfortunately because the ff400 does not support 8 channels of smux, my max resolution is 48khz with the current workflow.
But what am i thinking!? I'm going to connect my tape machine up this week and Finally get some recordings down.

sorry for sounding ignorant (that's cause I am ignorant),hydrogen wrote:Damnit mike!! U are the second person to tell me this week to get the d-box! now I must have it!
but what exactly does that thing do ?
I mean, what would its practical use be ?
Re: Analogue mixers
I think its just an advantage to have analogue summing. Like having a mixer, minus the need for space.
This might be useful.....

Re: Analogue mixers
but seriously,
you get a d-box when you don't have a mixer and/or patchbays, and need extra outputs for a 2nd pair of monitors ?
or am I missing something ?

It summs channels analogically. That's what it does. Someonelikeyou.

This guy explains his opinion on analogue summing:

He also has something to say about overdriving mixers at the end.
BTW, my ZEDR16 arrived today. Will keep you posted.
