how to get this groove?

Post by RichardLodge »

Looking for a bit of help.

love the grove in this tune, just trying to workout whether it's got a swing (groove template) or not. Is it just the percussion and velocities that make it groove or maybe some percussion is pushed ahead of the beat.. can't work it out?

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

its mostly the accents of the reverb toms/snares you're hearing in the background. Try the filterfreak. You can set it up that the filter env. gets powered by the input signal.
can't come up with other filter plugs that can do the same atm

Thanks for your helps guys.

Had a go with the Ableton groove extract... comes out very strange, think there's too much going on for it to work accurately.

Defiantly the groove is in the toms, but there's also a rolling bass and pop percussion. Can't work out whether they're swinging or not.

Will have a go with the filterfreak.

Not convinced there's that much delay involved in the percussion.

Thanks

Ok.. think I may have answers my own question. i think it's all quantized to SP1200 16 Swing 58. Or a swing very similar.

Next question.. how do you get percussion to sound that aggressive.. the big tom/snare hits mainly!

Find aggressive sounding tom/ snare samples. (No pun intended.) If your samples sound weak, it'll be hard to make them sound aggressive, or at least a lot more work. Hope this helps.
