I finally managed to figure it out.
I copied the lower end of the lowest-end kick layer and muddied it by bitcrushing and reverbing it.
Didn't even bother sidechaining it. The end result sounds amazing.

Getting those grooves in is usually done by adding heavily eq'd and transposed low attack/sustain kicks or toms off the 4/4 or whatever beat you're going for and getting creative with the sidechaining/transposing untill you hit a sweet spot where everything doesn't quite just rumble but pulsate with a nice funk.
