i dont have experience of either of these mixers, but i have owned various mackie and soundcraft desks over the years ( i still own two soundcraft mixers) and generally as an overview i'd say mackies are brighter and slightly colder with a crisp sound and soundcrafts are warmer and softer, the classic british sound.

i would recommend Soundcraft over Mackie any day.
not only for the qualities Steevio mentioned, but Mackie has gone even farther down hill since they changed manufacturing plants; lower-quality build, chintzier sound.

hi scacco!

i'm the proud owner of an old Soundcraft 200sr console, from mid 80's!!!
i bought a month ago and only had to replace fused VU lamps and a pot everything else is fine.

i know all brands have lowered quality but i would suggest Soundcraft.

Mackie is well known for its "not warm" sound.

Soundcraft is also well known for its British EQ (years ago) = warm EQ.

Hope it helps!!!

go with the soundcraft
the Mackie distorts badly when over driven

I have a 1604 that replaced my 32 channel sountracs desk

need to get the big desk fixed soon
