Good article.
I've always preferred doing the warm up slot and found it more natural to do so. For Me it's a chance to showcase your music collection and put it across in a personal way, you don't have so much freedom when doing the peak time slot. I've always found it a really rewarding experience setting the tone for the evening ahead. Unfortunately some DJs don't understand this concept at all.

weird. i was just thinking about that same point this morning on my commute. I'm always thinking "god this would never 'work' in a club, but i need to hear this on a proper system."
i guess it's a delicate combination of selfish wish fulfillment and mood-setting.
